Jeromine®
Origin
A mutation of Early Red One® Erovan, a variety that has been popular for the past 30 years.
Tree
Growth varies from weak to moderately vigorous, depending on rootstock and growing conditions. Flower buds primarily develop on 2–5-year-old shoots, though as a semi-spur type, it may also form buds on one-year-old shoots.
Flowering and pollination
Flowers three days before Golden Delicious. Good pollinators for Jeromine are: Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji, Golden Gem and Evereste.
Fruit Characteristics
Early fruiting with very high yields. Moderate tendency for biennial bearing.
Fruit
Large, elongated shape with visible ribbing near the calyx. Shiny skin with a very intense red blush and numerous visible lenticels. Firm, white, and delicate flesh. Compared to other sports, Red Delicious Jeromine stands out in terms of taste. It is sweet, with almost no acidity that is characteristic of other sports.
Harvesting
Harvested at the same time as Golden Delicious.
Health and Disease Resistance
Like all varieties from the Red Delicious group, it is susceptible to apple scab and apple bacterial canker.
Storage
Regular cold storage: until February. Controlled Atmosphere (CA): until June.
Suitability
Perfect for export! Due to its superior taste and stronger growth compared to other Red Delicious sports, Jeromine is increasingly favoured by growers.
