Burgred®
Burgred is a highly coloured mutant of the Pinova variety.
Discovered in South Tyrol The variety stores very well; after removal from cold storage, the fruit maintains a very long shelf life which makes it ideal for retail chains and export to distant markets.
Tree
Moderate vigour; stronger M9 clones or semi-dwarf rootstocks are recommended. Mid-to-late flowering, with a tendency for secondary blooming, similar to the parent variety.
Fruit
Round-conical to conical shape, characteristic of the Pinova variety. Medium-sized fruit, 50–70% covered with a red striped blush. Base colour: yellow; a two-tone variety. Colours significantly better than the original variety. Statistically, the skin colour is 25% more intense than the standard Pinova.
Burgred apples develop a blush covering 50–70% of the skin!
Pollinators
Golden delicious or Red delicious.
Harvest
Harvest time slightly earlier than the standard variety, around the same time as Golden Delicious. Typically harvested from early to mid-October.
