King® Roat Red Delicious
Origin
A new mutant of the Hapke variety, discovered in the town of Algund near Merano in South Tyrol.
Tree characteristics
A semi-spur type tree with growth vigor comparable to Early Red One Erovan. Due to its slightly stronger growth, it performs well when grafted onto dwarf rootstocks.
Blooming and pollination
It begins blooming relatively early. Recommended pollinizers include: Professor Sprenger, Evereste, Idared, and Golden Delicious.
Cropping
Fruits ripen several days earlier than those of the original variety, enabling an earlier start to the harvest.
Fruit description
Fruits are elongated and symmetrical in shape. The skin is covered with an even, glossy blush in a deep red hue. The striking color and elegant form give King Roat Red Delicious a highly attractive appearance. The fruit can be harvested in a single picking.
Harvest time
Late September to early October.
Storage
Storage life is comparable to that of other Red Delicious sports.
